How to setup Deaf Assistant apk for android
- For Android 4.0 or higher:Please to Settings, look down to Security, and select Unknown sources. Choosing this choice will enable to install apps download from the internet.
- For devices running on lower Android 4.0:
Please go to Settings - open the Applications option, and select Unknown sources, click OK on the popup alert.
Deaf Assistant Details
Deaf Assistant app version 2.5 is now available. The app remains free forever!.Deaf Assistant app makes communication between people who don't know sign language and deaf people easier.
The app converts speech to text, so a deaf person can read what the person says. The text to speech function allows a deaf person to type what he/she wants to says and the app converts text to speech.
How it works:
Click microphone icon while a person is speaking. The speech will be converted to text and appear on the upper part of the screen. To get correct words, place your device close to his/her mouth or ask him/her to speak out loud and clear. The person can correct the word if the app does not get it right, in case the person does not speak clearly or loud enough.
A deaf person can type his/her sentence on the lower part of the screen and click talk botton (the second botton from the left). The app will convert text to speech.
Click minus red circle icon when you want to start a new sentence. You can also shake your device, and the text will be deleted.
In this version, the user can save sentences on the devices and reuse them again and again.
The app works with both smart phone and tablet that has Android 4+.
The app supports 40 languages: Arabic, Afrikaans, Bosnian, Bulgarian, Chinese, Croatian, Czech, Dutch, English, Estonian, Finish, French, German, Greek, Hindi, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Lithuanian, Macedonian, Malay, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovakian, Slovenian, Spanish, Swahili, Swedish, Tamil, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, Urdu and Vietnamese.
The speech recognition works both online and offline. In case the speech recognition does not work offline, you have to download offline language package to your device. You can download your desired language for offline usage by doing the following settings.
1. On your Android device, go to setting.
2. Choose Language & Keyboard or Language & input, this depends on the device you are using. On some device, you have to choose advance setting to find the setting for language.
3. Choose Google voice typing.
4. Choose offline Speech recognition.
5. If your language is not already listed under “Installed”, then click “all”, and choose your language and click download. You should then be able to use the app offline.
Please note that, not all the languages are available for download. If your language is not available for download, you need internet connection to make the speech-to-text works on your device.
If the speech recognition function does not work with your desired language, you have to make the following settings on your phone.
1. On your Android device, go to setting .
2. Choose Language & Keyboard or Language & input.
3. Choose Google voice typing.
4. Choose Languages.
5. Check the language you want and uncheck the other languages. If you choose more than one languages, the speech recognition may not work. Then click Save.
If you want to match your gender with the voice source for text to speech function, just do the following steps.
1. On your Andriod device, go to setting.
2. Choose Language & Keyboard or Language & input.
3. Choose Text-to-Speech-output.
4. Choose Google Text-to-Speech Engine
5. Choose Install voice data.
6. Click on your desired language.
7. Click on Voice set 1.
8. Choose the voice that match your gender and click OK
Please note that not all the languages are available in both genders.
For Text to Speech function, just click setting icon on the app and choose the language you want. If Text to Speech does not work on your device, it can be that you do not have the voice data of the language you want and you have to download voice data to your device.
